What made you decide to visit One-to-1 Fitness?

I have been a member at other workout programs where staff has set up workout programs for me and then sent me on my way rarely checking up on me. At One-to-1 fitness everyday is 1 on1 with a trainer doing you own customized program that they designed, and helping you the whole way. As for me, who is not a self-motivated or self-disciplined person, I would find it extremely difficult to stay on a regular food plan or fitness routine by myself. But with a trainer that you have to report to a couple times a week, it keeps me on track and my goals in sight. Having a personal trainer really helps me challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone, I’m doing things that I never thought I could do before.

What exactly have your results been training at One-to-1 fitness?

My clothes fit much better than they ever have, I am more toned than I have ever been, my strength has gone through the roof and I’m much healthier today than in the past. I hardly ever get sick anymore because I’m learning how to take care of myself better. It’s also a huge confidence boost. I am currently training to go on an eco-adventure tour in Costa Rica in Feb of 2010 which I would have never considered trying a year ago.

What do you think has been different about One-to-1 fitness vs. other programs you have tried?

The best thing about One-to-1 fitness is the 1on1 training with your trainer. You know they’ll work you hard and you know that you’ll do it correctly and safely. You’ll also reach new boundaries and push more weight than you ever thought possible and that’s a great feeling. Also I like the fact that they have the infrared sauna plus massage right there on site for our convenience. 

Would you recommend One-to-1 fitness and why?

I would recommend One-to-1 fitness to anyone who has trouble reaching their fitness goals. It takes commitment on your part and commitment comes easy at one-to-1. They monitor your progress and outline a meal plan and is there with you for every workout every step of the way. Because of my busy schedule I am only able to attend 2 days a week but if I could I would definitely go more, it would be sooo worth it.

What made you decide to visit One-to-1 Fitness?

“I have tried many diets/ fads/ gyms and until I had my Uh/ha. Which was last summer watching my 12 year old daughter play with the Renegades. It was her first experience at a competitive sport. I watched her breakdown physically and emotionally and mentally in conditioning camp, which entailed running laps, lines, and sprints for an hour straight. Something finally snapped and said enough, if she was going to try this hard I will lose the weight once and for all.”

What do you think has been different about One-to-1 Fitness vs other programs?

“One to 1 is different because of the level of commitment. They expect you to commit to them and they intern commit to you. Most gyms rely on recruiting new members to sign up for a year and count on the members dropping out soon after. If this was not the case they would need Costco sized buildings to workout in with the number of people signing up each year. I do not know what the retention rate is at One to 1 but I still see the same faces today that I saw when I started. If I am running late Leon is phoning me to make sure I am on my way. It is nice to know someone truly cares and is waiting for me to come and work out. All gyms have trainers. The difference is Leon and I set a goal to reach in a month, 6 months, and a year. Other gyms you pay for a session or 10 sessions but they do not weigh you, measure you, map your progress and change your diet as needed. At One to 1 you get what you pay for “individualized personal lifestyle coaching.”

Would you recommend One-to-1 Fitness? If so, why?

“One to 1 is a very unique and amazing place. First of all the support is amazing. You are greeted when you come in and leave. Doing a lifestyle change is very stressful and there are so many emotional and physical components that you are working to overcome so seeing the friendly smile really helps. Next, it is fun. Lets face it working out is hard and changing your diet is even harder but the experience shouldn’t be. The trainers are friendly and even if they do not train you they will talk to you when doing cardio and give you that burst of energy when needed. The knowledge that the trainers have is simply amazing. Leon is extremely knowledgeable about the body. I remember the day when he hooked me. It had been 3 months and I had been losing 2-3 pounds a week. Leon said that in the next week or so do not become anxious when I only lose a pound and explained the reasoning behind it and when it did happened to let him know and he would begin to change the workout routine and diet again. 2 weeks later he was right. What made you decide to visit One-to-1 Fitness?

After a year of working out specifically to lose body fat, I wanted to focus more on definition and increasing muscle mass. After hearing a couple of the other clients say how much they enjoyed it there I decided to join while they had a promotion.

What exactly has been your results training at One-to-1 fitness?

After only two months at One-to-1 I feel stronger and can see a definite difference in my arm and upper body definition. I feel better on a day to day basis, just being more confident in myself and how my body looks. My clothes are looser even though the number on the scale has not changed! Doing day to day things like carrying groceries upstairs are much easier just due to the weight training.

What do you think has been different about One-to-1 fitness Vs. Other programs you have tried?

On July 24th 2008 I made a pledge to myself that I was going to change my body, and have a better life. I went to several boot camps, trainers, and nutritionists to gain knowledge and advice of how to lose body fat, and become an overall healthier and happier person. Throughout my whole experiences of losing weight I would become ecstatic over every pound I had lost. Before joining One-to-1 I had went from 248lbs to 172lbs. Although I was happy that my body was smaller and that my Body Fat % had dropped dramatically I still was missing that final link. After only 2 months at One-to-1 I found that missing link. It was in fact muscle mass and definition. There were difficult times and times where I doubted the strategies of the trainers, but in the end, it worked to my advantage. There were two distinct differences in One-to-1’s training methods as compared to others.

The first was diet and nutrition. Over the past year the only guidance all of the other nutritionists and trainers provided was to have a lower intake of calories and higher physical output. They never specified at which point lowering your intake of calories could be detrimental to your body’s natural working order. I learned that sometimes more calories is better, it keeps your metabolism running constantly, and feeds your muscles as opposed to your fat. This was very hard for me to wrap my head around but eventually I did and am amazed with the outcome.

The second is how they focus on the important stuff. The training times are half of what you would normally get out of a personal training, however they don’t waste your money by watching you stretch and warm up. They help you where you need to be helped. It is completely set up for success, as long as you are willing to follow the plan they set out for you.

All of the trainers at One-to-1 Fitness were very personable, and friendly. It kind of felt like you were walking into your house with family to work out. All you see are smiles, and more smiles, even through the sweat.

What made you decide to visit One-To-1 Fitness?

I finally decided to have a healthier lifestyle and also to get into some sort of half decent physical shape. I had read Cabel’s articles on Health, Nutrition and Physical fitness and liked what I read. So I decided to sign up with One-to-1 so that I would learn the proper ways of exercising and working out. I like having the commitment of an appointment 3 times a week.

What exactly has been your results training at One-To-1 Fitness?

I have gone from 205lbs in January to 183 pounds in May. My body fat has gone down from 28% to less than 18% and I’ve gained 16lbs of muscle.

I am in much better physical shape. I feel better. I have more energy and believe it or not I actually really look forward to my training sessions.

I would like to sincerely thank my coach. My coach took an interest in my training and in trying to get me in shape to run in the Woody’s half marathon (21km) which was one of my goals when I started. Without his help I know I probably would not have reached that goal. I am old enough to be his granddad- yet he relates extremely well and has great people skills.

The difference and what sets One-to-1 apart from competition is their staff: knowledgeable, professional, caring, patient, plus a little bit of a task master. Which some of us need from time to time to push ourselves a little further and harder.

There were many reasons that I visited and joined One-to-1 Fitness. I have been overweight my entire life. I am classified as morbidly obese and really need to lose weight. When I became a mother, it became increasingly important to me that I be a healthy role model for my son. What made you decide to visit One-to-1 Fitness?

A friend of my daughter reported good results from her weight loss program at One-to-1, and since my daughter was hoping to lose weight too, I suggested that we check out One-to-1. We liked our consult and liked the facility, and both took up memberships. My goal was not to lose weight but to gain muscle, and to try and improve my posture. I have great respect and admiration for my trainer’s knowledge, dedication and accomplishments at such a young age. What exactly has been your results training at One-to-1 Fitness?

I feel strangely energized after my workout even after feeling tired at the start and during the workout. My trainer says I have gained strength and muscle tone. What made you decide to visit One-to-1 Fitness?

I heard the ad on the radio and it sounded like a great opportunity to get some help to achieve what I have been trying to do (unsuccessfully) on my own. It was easy to tell myself I didn’t need a program to get the results I wanted, but my biggest problem on my own was motivation. I kept procrastinating, telling myself I’d start exercising after the weekend, or after the next holiday, or anything to put it off just a little longer. I figured I might as well try adding a little structure to it and see if it actually helps, and the difference was huge.

What exactly has been your results training at One-to-1 Fitness?

My goal wasn’t about losing weight as much as it was about leaning up. I was looking to loose about 15 pounds or so and just convert fat weight into muscle weight. In the first 3 weeks I lost 12 pounds and started to notice more definition in my core. I’ve even had to tighten the belt up a couple notches. I was super happy about that because that was more than I had managed to ever do on my own.

What do you think has been different about One-to-1 Fitness vs. other programs you have tried?

The only other program I’ve ever tried has been the, I’ll try to eat better and go to the gym program. The thing I like about One-to-1 is the small groups and, as corny as it sounds, the fun atmosphere. As much as my trainer likes to joke around and have a good time, he’s still incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of healthy living. Any time I had questions about foods I should or shouldn’t be eating, he had an answer and, more importantly, the time to answer it. He never makes me feel like I’m wasting his time or asking a stupid question, which is nice because I’m pretty new to the whole healthy lifestyle thing. Another difference is just having someone to put you through a workout instead of just going to the gym and lifting weights until you’re tired. That, along with having other people around you doing the same thing, really pushes you to go farther than you thought you could. It’s really tough at times, but the feeling afterwards is pretty hard to beat.

Would you recommend One-to-1 Fitness and why?

Absolutely. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying a gym membership and doing it on their own. It just is not the same. It’s too easy to make excuses to yourself for why you can’t go to the gym, and having times pre-booked and having someone ready to give you their time for your benefit makes an enormous difference. If there is a muscle you aren’t sure how to work or stretch properly, there is someone right in front of you to ask. If you want to know if the things you are eating are helping or hurting you, there’s someone right there who knows. And if you’re struggling to get through your workout, you just look around you and there are 6 other people going through the exact same thing. You just don’t have that at a regular gym, and for me, that has made all the difference.

I followed weight watchers for a long time however was only able to eat 1200 calories as now I am eating 1800. I also had a program developed from a personal trainer and it had me exercising 1.5 hours a day, 6 days a week, unlike One-to-1. I think One-to-1 provides a balance and attainable goal of exercising and eating healthy.

First of all I had a friend who had spent time at One-to-1 and had a very favorable and enjoyable experience so that it made it easier to come and discover what One-to-1 had to offer. Second, I work out at home but I wanted to become more educated in how to work out more effectively and get better results. What exactly has been your results training at One-to-1?

Once I figured out the issues with my metabolism, I started to consistently loose a pound a week. As of the beginning of June 2009, the scale says there is 23 pounds less of me! The belt I used to wear around my waist I now wear around my hips. My posture has improved. I can actually notice the muscles under my skin. My agility and strength have significantly increased. I used to skip breakfast and sometimes not eat all day until supper, so consuming 5-6 little meals a day has been a major change for me. I realize now that it’s far better to eat often. Also drinking plenty of water throughout the day has become another new habit. I’m feeling very healthy and fit!

What do you think has been different about One-to-1 vs other programs you have tried?

Working out one-to-one with a professional trainer and being accountable to another person has made all the difference for me.

Thank you to my trainer for helping me discover how much I enjoy weight training. Weight training, in my opinion, is now the most important thing I can do for my physique and health.

Would you recommend One-to-1 fitness and why?

You pay a premium price to work out at One-to-1 but just like everything else in life if you want a quality experience you have to pay for it.

I would highly recommend a personal trainer. My trainer is consistent and reliable in his training approach, always keeping the workout routines interesting and challenging. If it wasn’t for his watchful eye, I know I wouldn’t do those important extra few reps. Also, having someone to ensure that you do the exercises correctly makes a huge difference in being injury free and getting the best results in the shortest time. What made you decide to visit One-To-1 Fitness?

I have always tried to maintain my fitness levels, but during 2008 my stress levels were high and I had little time for my own health-I had hit an all time high for my weight. I’ve learned that it is in fact a whole life change. My eating is extremely improved; I know what to eat and when I should be eating it and why. This gym is, as its name suggests, all one-on-one training! You have a trainer dedicated to spending time with you to make sure that you’re getting the results you want. Plans are individualized to meet each person’s needs. It’s a very encouraging environment, people here genuinely care about your results, not just physically but how everything is going at the gym and outside the gym, their job doesn’t end when the client walks out the door. Everything is taught, you actually learn why you’re doing a certain exercise, why you’re eating a certain meal at a certain time of day, its about transforming your way of thinking, of living, it’s not just a fad to ‘stick to’ for a few weeks of months.

Would you recommend One-to-1 Fitness & why?

Yes I would, and I have recommended One-to-1 Fitness to others, I’ve had 2 co-workers join as well. I feel good coming here, simple as that. The biggest difference so far is the one-on-one training, you have a personal trainer that is helping you every time that you go to the gym which is one of the reasons that I go to this fitness center. It is nice feeling that someone actually cares for what we accomplish in the gym.

Would you recommend One-to-1 fitness and why?

You bet! I would recommend this fitness center to anyone. It is one of the best gym’s that I have ever been a part of. It’s nice that when you walk through the doors that everyone knows your name and stops to talk to you, I have never had that happen at any other gym. The trainers are very knowledgeable and great at their job. If you have any questions or concerns about what they want you to do, or about your diet or exercise, you just ask and they will answer your questions.

What made you decide to visit One-to-1 Fitness?

As of first week of February 2009, I celebrated the start of my second year at One-to-1 Fitness. The reason for my initial visit is outlined below.

In my younger years (until my late forties), I was relatively physically active primarily through participation in sports. However by the end of 2007, I had completed about a decade of minimal physical activity in winter and frequent, but low intensity, physical activity in summer.

In January 2008, I visited my physician to complain of sore knees – presumably a consequence of numerous sporting injuries. After careful examination, he recommended physical activity as the solution.

It was also true that, although not abnormal, there was room for significant improvement in key indicators such as weight, percent body fat, lipids levels (cholesterol, triglycerides) and blood pressure.

Being winter, I thought the best solution would be to join a gym. However I had never been to a gym to “work out”! My physical activity had always been found on a sports field, hockey rink or racquetball court, etc. I knew that if I joined a gym, I would have no knowledge of what to do or how to do it in terms of achieving results and avoiding injury. I had no experience with the development or management of programs for strength training or for cardiovascular training. I had no clue how these programs might be enhanced with an appropriate nutritional plan.

Therefore, I developed a set of criteria, some based on my goals for physical fitness and others based on practical requirements to fit my very busy professional schedule. I needed a facility that was centrally located so as to minimize travel time. I needed flexible hours so that I could partition my program into small blocks of time. I required the facility to be open on Saturday, a day with minimal schedule conflicts. Most importantly, because of my lack of knowledge and experience, it was clear that I needed a mentor on a consistent basis. After development of these criteria, I visited the gyms in Red Deer. Based on my criteria, especially that for a mentor, One-to-1 Fitness was by far my first choice.

What exactly has been your results training at One-to-1 Fitness?

As a consequence of increased physical activity and an improved nutrition, my initial goals have been achieved.

  • First, my knees are not sore! They no longer creak when I go down stairs. Once again, I can squat down to line up a putt and better yet, I can get back up.
  • Weight and percent body fat declined consistently over a period of approximately five months at which time all visible body fat had been lost. Weight and percent body fat have remained stable thereafter.
  • Similarly, after five months, other indicators such as blood pressure and lipid levels had improved significantly.
  • My capacity for cardiovascular exercise has increased over the year, especially with improvement in my knees.
  • Overall muscle tone is much improved.
  • Goals for year 2 include increased cardiovascular capacity and further enhancements in muscle tone.

What do think has been different about One-to-1 Fitness vs other programs you have tried?

I have not tried other programs so I am unable to make any comparison. However, I can offer the following comments.

My primary trainer is great! He is knowledgeable, experienced and accomplished. He is also a fun person. Although limited, my experience is that this is also true for the other half dozen or so trainers that I have been paired with on occasion. All of the One-to-1 Fitness personnel are friendly and accommodating making it a pleasure to be there. I also enjoy interacting with other clients.

My selection of One-to-1 Fitness on the basis of the requirement for a full time mentor has been confirmed. I have learned enough to know that there is much more to learn. Especially for the strength training, the trainer has been instrumental in the continuous modification of my program.

Monthly assessment of key performance indicators coupled with goal setting (strength training, cardiovascular training and nutrition) for the following month have proven to be valuable for me in terms of measuring success and providing focus for the future.

Accountability has been a key component. My experience is that the trainer is accountable for my results and my safety. I feel accountable for a number of things. Examples include: to show up for my appointments (it is much easier to put off going to the gym when no one is there waiting for you), to follow the nutritional plan as much as possible, and to work as hard as I possibly can throughout every session. In terms of achieving results, I can easily say that there is no way I would have worked as hard as I have done without my trainer to move me onwards with words of encouragement and congratulations.

Would you recommend One-to-1 Fitness and why?

Since joining One-to-1 Fitness, people have been interested in what I have been doing. I have often been asked questions such as “Is it fun?” On one hand, the answer is definitely “No!” This business of getting physically fit is hard work and it takes commitment! On the other hand, the answer is definitely “Yes”. I truly enjoy the environment and the staff.

For those that ask “Is it worth it? My answer is a resounding “Yes!” For this reason, I have recommended One-to-1 Fitness to people who are serious about achieving results.

The difference is my knowledgeable trainer and the facility, now that it is complete, it is great. The real reason I have achieved such excellent results is from the cooperation and leadership I have received from my trainer. His commitment to my goals has inspired me to achieve what i thought was not possible. He has guided me to a lifestyle change that includes daily fitness, proper eating habits and a general improved focus on my health. That is powerful stuff for a man with a wife and three children. In fact I have, my seventeen year old son, Cole is now a member and attends three times a week early in the morning (if you can imagine). “To Whom It May Concern,

Only a few months ago I arrived from a year of University, and I unfortunately suffered from a bit more than the dreaded “Freshman 15,” but we won’t discuss what the real amount was. Being an athlete, and in fairly good shape for most of my life, it was disappointing to see that I had become the Michelin Man. Alas, I am being facetious, but the fact remains that when I came home I was in a poor state of physical health and I needed the way out. The solution came from the usual source, my mother. She told me she was going to a gym that had really done her wonders. I was intrigued. The only problem was the finances and they don’t exactly let you finance a gym membership. But as I have learned throughout the summer, through both work experiences and through One to 1 Fitness, it is impossible to put a price tag on being as healthy as possible. The first time I went to One to 1 I was a little nervous, asking myself questions like, “What do I do?” However, as soon as I arrived, I found nothing but kind, warm and welcoming people all around. The first thing that caught my attention was the positive atmosphere that surrounded everything there. No matter who you talked to, everyone was positive and uplifting. All the trainers were personable and friendly and of course it didn’t hurt that Leon turned out to be an Oilers fan, but I digress. Since becoming a member of One to 1 Fitness I have lost over 25 pounds. I have gained mounds of self-confidence lost due to weight and appearance issues. I also notice that I tend to have a tonne more energy!

“I never thought I would be the person that would be doing a testimonial to encourage others to meet the challenges of getting healthier, losing weight, looking and feeling better, whatever your ultimate goal.

I was not heavier as a child or in my early adulthood. The weight came on gradually year after year since my early 30’s. I tried all kinds of diets, pills, exercise programs, and videos to lose some weight only to put it all back on and then some.

One to 1 Fitness is different. Right from the trial session I had with my personal trainer, I was encouraged to make a lifestyle change. I remember the first question they asked me: “Who are you doing this for?” and I can honestly say that is the first time I emphatically said, “For me”. Not for an upcoming wedding, party or anniversary, not for someone in my life, but truly for myself. You need to decide that you are worth it. I am sure you hear all the time, “I did it and so can you,” well I am here to tell you that is 100% true.

It is the little encouraging statements and words that come from everyone that works for One to 1 Fitness. I needed to hear things like “you need to fuel your body with the right stuff in the right way in the right proportions,” “it’s all about you and no one else,” “the only one you are hurting if you don’t exercise and eat right is yourself.” I still hear those words when I am tempted to go to a fast food restaurant and eat poorly. Don’t get me wrong, I still fall off the wagon from time to time, but now I forgive myself, get right back at it and “get with the program.”

I think the idea of having one “cheat meal” per week gives you the opportunity to enjoy those burgers or ice cream or even a piece of pizza. The thing I have found is that I don’t crave them as often.

My biggest struggle has been to become active every day and stick with the meal plan. Almost every day I face my old fears and old eating habits but I can always hear my trainer’s voice asking me, “Who are you doing this for?” If the answer is truly for yourself, you are worth every effort you put in and what it takes to succeed. I still struggle with body image and have gotten to the stage where I can look in the mirror and truly say that I look pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I am more confident, and I may never be a supermodel, but I am the best me I can be.

I have lost 52 pounds and gone from a size 22 to a size 12 in 8 months. I have not reached my goal weight yet, but there are so many advantages to what I have accomplished so far. Like what, you say? How about running up the stairs and not being out of breath, walking for miles on end and not tiring, shopping for clothes in any store I want to, being able to walk the golf course, and the best of all, hearing all the time how good I look from others around me.

I have also encouraged others in my life to make the same lifestyle change. My father has started eating and exercising and he has lost 30 pounds in just a little over 3 months. My sister’s goal was to be able to fit into her summer clothes; she has lost 10 pounds in 2 months and is doing well. I try to be encouraging to others as much as everyone has been for me.

What I have found is that the friendly, helpful atmosphere of the gym makes me want to work out and makes me want to work hard.

“Like a scene from “The Temple of Doom” – my ‘aha’ moment came when I felt my heart trying to rip itself out of my chest on a little hike in the Olmoti Crater in Tanzania. This, I thought to myself, was not appropriate for a 35 year old.

I began working with my trainer mid-December – my main goal to become healthy (and of course loose a few pounds and rolls along the way). Although the training sessions can be tough work and I sweat like an ice cold beer sitting on a hot sunny deck, the fun I have at the gym makes it easy to come back and even look forward to (almost). My trainer has worked with me to find a diet (if you can call it a diet when you are eating 6 times a day) that works for me, my tastes and my own metabolism – not something out of a pre-printed menu with no substitutions allowed.

For the past few years I have been an avid runner, participating in runs from 10 kms to half marathons. I would try doing some weight training and core exercises and try to eat less calories. Little did i know that I wasn’t fueling my body properly. Then I heard about One-to-1 Fitness. My girlfriend Lorna was starting as a personal trainer there, and I thought I have to try this. I called her up and asked her what kind of things do they offer? Lorna told me that you would have a personal trainer with you the whole time you worked out. They also would design a diet program specifically for me with guaranteed results as long as I followed their recommendations.

When I began on the diet, I thought I couldn’t possibly eat all this food in one day. But I did. And it worked. Within 2 weeks I had lost 6lbs, I started to notice subtle changes in my body. I was weight training 3 times per week and still doing my running at home. By the end of 6 weeks I had lost 7lbs and a total of about 7 inches on my whole body. I could see more muscle definition over my whole body. I was extremely happy. I feel great and I have increased energy. I still continue to work out with Lorna and I can’t wait to see what my body will look like after 3 more months.

I find it very easy to eat the recommended portions and food suggested. It is also easy to implement even when I go out to a restaurant. I enjoy working with Lorna and everyday she throws in something new to challenge my body. I recommend One-to-1 Fitness to anyone who needs that extra push to achieve their goals whatever they may be.
